Announcements for 2020
Announcements for 2020
The GSM Food Pantry and Clothes Closet are open on the last Saturday of each month. There are exceptions to this schedule to accommodate Thanksgiving and Christmas needs. Please check the events page for details.
Thanks to the generosity of many individuals, churches and organizations, GSM has been averaging over 135 boxes of food given to those in need every month! Although the list may vary somewhat from month to month, those boxes contain canned beans, canned meat, beef stew, rice, dried beans, canned fruit, pasta sauce, pasta noodles, chicken noodle soup, tomato soup, macaroni and cheese, canned tomatoes and oatmeal. In addition, recipients are given a loaf of bread and sometimes items in addition to those on the "standard" list.

There are new instructions above regarding delivery of the food items to the Pantry as follows: When you deliver your food items, we are asking that you go ahead and put them on the shelves in the Pantry. There is a section marked off and labeled for each item. If you have more than will fit in the designated area, then please place the remainder across the hall in the Clothes Closet under the appropriate heading. This is to be completed by the middle of the third week of each month.
Churches who collect food from their congregations or other outside sources will be responsible for delivering those items to the pantry and putting them on the shelves. They will be responsible for checking expiration dates, and disposing of out-of-date items and placing them in the flats provided above that section. Please DO NOT put loose cans on the shelves!!
When donating food items to the pantry, please bring the items on or before the Monday before "Pantry Day". If you need to bring in food after the Monday before "Pantry Day", please place the food in the clothing closet after you have weighed the food items.
Also, the nighttime packing is now on Monday (the last Monday before Saturday distribution) at 7:00 p.m.
Please remember that individual food items donated to the Food Pantry should not weigh more than one pound. This is because containers that are especially bulky cannot fit in the food boxes. Also due to health reasons, we cannot divide large sized donated containers into smaller.
Please do NOT leave donations (food or otherwise) outside the building. If you wish to donate items, please coordinate with
Volunteers, please note the change in Food Pantry (and Clothes Closet) hours below:
Arrival of volunteers: 8:45 a.m.
Arrival of families to receive food and clothes: 9:00 a.m.
Distribution of Food: 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
Clean-up of Food Pantry, Clothes Closet, hallways, bathrooms, and outside of the building: 10:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Each church will need at least 8 to 10 volunteers for the Food Pantry and additional volunteers for the Clothes Closet. If your church cannot provide enough volunteers, please consider partnering with another congregation and sharing each church's assigned month. (Assigned months are detailed on the events page.)
GSM has three carts and one hand truck for volunteers to use in maneuver boxes of food from the Food Pantry to the recipients' vehicles. Volunteers are welcome to bring additional carts to use during the time they assist with the Food Pantry.
Many thanks to everyone for all you do!
